cocoa slavery

Slavery ended in December 1865.
No, slavery is apparent today, in the same sense as it was then, the purchase of humans and the consequent human trafficking.
But why?
Chocolate! an unnessisary part of society already causing other problems like obesity. Child slavery in the ivory coast is particularly common. Surely only a few astray companies use slave labour to produce cocoa? No, all the big companies; Kraft, Nestle, Ben and Jerry's, Mars confectionary to name a few.
some do not see slavery as a problem oand rather as a good thing "the world is over populated anyway so lets just work them to death and eat them".
but is because these people are not making the statistic of 250 million children in slavery into human faces and lives; so this is an accout of a former cocoa slave (Aly)
When Aly became to weary, or fell because the pressure of the bags were too heavy, the farmers aids would beat him till he rose again.
The child’s life was filled with the monotonous cycle of harvesting the cocoa. It takes 400 cocoa beans to make a pound of chocolate. “The boys who work on Ivory Coast's cocoa farms cut 10 pods from the trees, slice them open, scoop out the beans, spread them in baskets or on mats and cover them to ferment. Then they uncover the beans, put them in the sun to dry, bag them and load them onto trucks to begin the long journey to America or Europe.” (Charterjee)
“Yet when nightfall came, Aly's torture did not end. He and eighteen other slave workers had to stay in their one room that measured 24-by-20 feet. The boys all slept on a wooden plank. There was but one small hole just big enough to let in some air. Aly and the others had to urinate in a can, because once they went into the room, they were not allowed to leave.
How can we end this?
Fair trade! paying a fair price for what we want! so to guarantee this look for the fairtrade symbol, for more information here is the fairtrade U.K website: http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/

Economic Downturn. [for Mr w00dy]
As we see once stable companies collapse, and bought over by the government and their former competitors why are some companies having positive profits?
like Apple Inc. this quarter its profits were 26% higher than last quarter.
I researched this and it is widely believed that this is before people were cutting back on spending and hadn't heard of the "credit crunch" doom and gloom. But if i recall correctly it was reported at least 2 quarters ago much before it supposedly came to fruition.
news archives that i could find dont stem back that far so i have no recorded video proof of these reports.
what ever happens next it shall be an interesting economic story to follow. [Yay! cheap stocks/ commodities]
